Effects & Onset
Will a Float House drink get me high?
Yes. Every Float House brew except our LITE Non-Dosed option contains hemp-derived Delta-9 THC, the same compound found in cannabis. A 5mg can produces a mild, sociable lift. Effects vary from person to person, and our higher doses and DIPA (10mg) deliver a deeper float. Start low and go slow until you know how your body responds.
How long does it take to kick in?
Float House drinks hit faster than edibles. Most people feel the lift in 10 to 20 minutes, peak around 45 to 60 minutes, and feel the float settle out around 90 minutes to 2 hours. The nano-emulsion process we use lets the THC absorb under the tongue and through the stomach lining, so onset is closer to a drink than a gummy.
How long do the effects last?
A typical 5mg can floats for about 90 minutes to 2 hours, start to finish. Our 10mg DIPA can carry you for 2 to 3 hours. Heavier consumption stacks the timeline. Plan your evening accordingly and avoid driving until you feel fully grounded.
How does a Float House compare to an edible?
Faster on, shorter overall. Edibles route THC through the liver, so they take 60 to 120 minutes to kick in and can last 6 to 9 hours. Our brews use nano-emulsified hemp Delta-9 that absorbs more like alcohol, so you feel it in 10 to 20 minutes and the float lasts roughly 90 minutes. More predictable, easier to dose.
How does a 5mg can feel compared to one beer?
Different chemistry, different experience, and it is personal. Many customers describe a 5mg can as a relaxed, social lift: looser conversation, lighter on your feet. There is no alcohol involved, so there is no next-day hangover. Effects vary, so go at your own pace and see how it feels for you.
Will I get a hangover?
No. Float House drinks contain no alcohol, so no dehydration, no acetaldehyde, no morning regret. You may feel a touch sluggish if you stack several 10mg cans late at night, but that is the dose talking, not a hangover.
Can THC drinks cause anxiety or paranoia?
At low doses (3 to 5mg) the answer is almost always no. Anxiety risk rises with higher doses, especially if you stack drinks too fast or you are new to THC. If you are anxiety-prone, start at 3mg and drink ~half a can and wait the full 20 minutes before deciding to drink more, and avoid mixing with caffeine.
Why does the float feel different from smoking?
Different absorption path, different cannabinoid mix, different ride. Smoking sends a quick spike that fades fast. Our drinks deliver a smoother onset, a more even float, and a softer landing because the THC is bound to a beverage matrix that releases over minutes, not seconds.
Dosing & Beginner
How much THC should I drink if it is my first time?
Start with one 3mg can. Drink it slowly, set a 20-minute timer, do not stack another until you have felt the first one fully. If 3mg feels light, your next session can be 5mg or you can have a second 3mg can. Going low first means you learn your own tolerance instead of guessing.
Can I drink more than one can in a session?
Yes, and most regular customers do. The honest framing: a single 5mg can is a social drink, two is a more committed evening, three is a strong float and you should stop there for the night. Our 10mg DIPA is intentionally built for people who already know their tolerance.
What is a "microdose" THC drink?
A microdose is typically 2.5mg to 3mg of THC, low enough to take the edge off without producing a noticeable head change. Our 3mg core lineup sits in that range and is the most popular starting point for customers replacing one or two evening drinks.
What if I don't feel anything after one can?
Wait the full 20 minutes before deciding. Onset can vary based on what you have eaten and your individual metabolism. If 20 minutes pass and you genuinely feel nothing, you can have a second one or step up to a 5mg can next session. Some people simply need a slightly higher entry dose, that is normal.
Can I split a can over an evening?
Absolutely. Pour half into a glass, save the rest. Cans are best within 24 hours of opening if refrigerated. Half a 5mg is a casual 2.5mg float that pairs well with a long dinner.
Will I build a tolerance?
If you drink THC daily, yes. Most casual drinkers (a few cans a week) never notice. If you find yourself needing more to feel the same float, take a 3 to 7 day break and you will reset.
Safety, Driving, Medications
Can I drive after a Float House?
No. Do not drive after consuming any THC product, including ours. The float wears off in roughly 90 minutes for a 5mg can and longer for higher doses, but reaction time and judgment may stay impaired beyond that. Plan a ride home or stay where you are until you feel fully grounded.
Is it safe to mix with alcohol?
We recommend against it. THC and alcohol amplify each other in unpredictable ways, and the combo is the most common reason new consumers feel sick or anxious. If you are switching from alcohol to THC for the night, switch fully. Pick one float and stay there.
Can I take a Float House with my medication?
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist first if you take any prescription medication, especially SSRIs, blood thinners, blood pressure medication, sedatives, or seizure medication. THC can interact with how the liver processes some drugs. We are not in a position to give you personalized medical guidance.
Is it safe to drink during pregnancy or breastfeeding?
No. Do not consume any THC product during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. THC passes through the placenta and into breast milk, and current public health guidance recommends abstaining entirely.
Can I drink one to help me sleep?
Some customers use a low dose at night and find it helps them wind down. Effects on sleep are individual: at 3 to 5mg most people relax and fall asleep more easily, while higher doses can fragment deeper sleep stages. A single 3mg can about an hour before bed is a common starting point for customers exploring this, though individual responses vary.
What is the age requirement to buy from Float House?
You must be 21 or older to purchase Float House products. We verify age at checkout and again at delivery. We do not ship to or sell to anyone under 21.
Drug Testing
Will hemp-derived THC show up on a drug test?
Yes, it can. Standard drug tests look for THC metabolites and do not distinguish between hemp-derived and cannabis-derived sources. If you are subject to drug testing for work, sports, legal, or any other reason, do not consume Float House products.
How long does THC stay in my system?
It varies widely. For occasional drinkers, THC metabolites may be detectable in urine for 3 to 7 days. For daily consumers, detection windows can extend to 30 days or longer. Blood and saliva tests have shorter windows. There is no reliable way to predict your individual timeline, so the only safe path if you are being tested is abstinence.
Can hemp THC cause a false positive?
A drug test result from hemp-derived Delta-9 THC is not a false positive. The THC molecule is the same compound regardless of source. The test is doing what it is designed to do, which is why we recommend against consuming Float House if you are subject to drug testing.
Legality & Shipping
Is hemp-derived Delta-9 THC legal in the United States?
Yes, at the federal level. The 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp and hemp-derived cannabinoids, including Delta-9 THC, provided the final product contains no more than 0.3% Delta-9 THC by dry weight. Every Float House product is formulated to meet that standard. State laws vary and can be more restrictive than federal law.
Where does Float House ship?
We currently ship to 34 states plus Washington, D.C. We do not ship to states where hemp-derived THC beverages are restricted or prohibited. The most up-to-date list lives on our shipping page. If your state is not on that list, the system will block the order at checkout.
Why can't you ship to my state?
A handful of states either prohibit hemp-derived THC products outright or restrict their sale to licensed cannabis dispensaries. As of May 2026 that group is Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Idaho, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Jersey, Oregon, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, and Washington. We follow each state's rules to keep both you and us in good standing.
Can you ship to Texas?
We ship to Texas as of May 13, 2026, but Texas hemp law is under active dispute and the situation may change quickly. Check our shipping page for the latest status before you order. If state law tightens, we will pause Texas shipments rather than risk noncompliance.
Can you ship to New York?
Yes, with the standard 21+ age verification. New York permits hemp-derived Delta-9 beverages provided they comply with state labeling and potency rules, and our products meet those rules.
Can you ship to Florida?
Yes. Florida permits hemp-derived Delta-9 beverages for adults 21 and over. We verify age at checkout and at delivery.
What is changing on November 12, 2026?
The federal hemp redefinition signed in November 2025 takes effect on November 12, 2026, and may tighten allowable THC limits and dosage thresholds for hemp products. The exact enforcement scope is still being clarified. We are tracking it closely and will update product formulations, state availability, and this FAQ as the rules become final.
Hemp vs. Marijuana Education
What is hemp-derived Delta-9 THC?
Delta-9 THC is the cannabinoid responsible for the classic cannabis float. When it is extracted from hemp plants (cannabis containing less than 0.3% Delta-9 by dry weight) and used in a finished product that also stays under that 0.3% threshold, it is federally legal under the 2018 Farm Bill. Float House drinks use hemp-derived Delta-9 exclusively.
How is hemp THC different from marijuana THC?
Chemically, it is the same molecule. Legally and economically, the difference is the plant it came from and the percentage of THC in the source material. Marijuana flower is heavily regulated and sold through dispensaries. Hemp-derived THC products that meet the 0.3% rule can be sold and shipped much more broadly.
Is hemp THC weaker than dispensary THC?
Milligram for milligram, no. A 5mg hemp-derived Delta-9 drink and a 5mg dispensary-derived Delta-9 edible should land in the same neighborhood, all else equal. The difference you feel between products usually comes down to the delivery format (drink vs. gummy vs. flower), other cannabinoids in the mix, and your individual tolerance, not the source plant.
What is the difference between Delta-8 and Delta-9?
Both are forms of THC. Delta-9 is the natural, well-studied compound and is what we use in every Float House drink. Delta-8 is a less-studied analog often produced through chemical conversion, and many states have moved to restrict or ban it. We do not formulate with Delta-8.
Do you use synthetic or converted cannabinoids?
No. Float House exclusively uses non-converted Delta-9 THC derived from hemp, never a synthetic cannabinoid. We maintain full chain-of-custody documentation for every product we make, and every batch is tested by a third-party lab to confirm safety and compliance. What goes in the can is a natural cannabinoid, sourced and documented start to finish.
Product, Ingredients, Lifestyle
How many calories are in a Float House?
Our IPA, LITE, and Nitro family cans run between 45 and 60 calories per 12oz can, depending on the brew. The Tropical Floatie smoothie sits a bit higher at 90 cals./12 oz because it is loaded with real fruit! Per-SKU nutrition is on every product page.
Are Float House drinks gluten-free?
All of our brews are not gluten free but our Tropical Floatie is!
Is there a lab test I can see?
Yes. Every batch is third-party tested for cannabinoid content, pesticides, heavy metals, and microbials. Current certificates of analysis (COAs) live at floathouse.co/pages/lab-results and are linked from each product page.
Does it taste like weed?
Our craft brews lean into the beer side of the family tree, not the cannabis side. The IPA reads as a West Coast IPA: dank, hop-forward, citrus and pine, crisp dry finish. The LITE is clean and sessionable. The Nitro is smooth and creamy. The Tropical Floatie is fruit-forward. If you are looking for grassy or weedy notes, you will not find them here.
How should I store my Float House?
Treat it like any craft brew. Keep cans cold and out of direct sunlight and away from kids. They are fine at room temperature for shorter stretches, but for best flavor and effect, refrigerate before drinking.
What is the shelf life?
Twelve months from the production date stamped on the bottom of the can. The Float does not weaken meaningfully over that period, but the brew is at its best within the first 6 months.
Orders, Returns, Build Your Own Pack
Can I build my own pack?
Yes. Our Build Your Own Pack tool at /pages/build-your-own-pack lets you mix any cans across our lineup into a custom 12-pack or 24-pack.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover) through our payment processor. Apple Pay and Google Pay are supported on most devices. We are not currently on Shop Pay for hemp compliance reasons.
What is your return policy?
Because Float House products are consumable, we do not accept returns once an order ships. If your order arrives damaged, defective, or wrong, contact us at hello@floathouse.co within 7 days of delivery and we will make it right. Photos help.
Do I need to be home to sign for my order?
Yes. All Float House shipments require an adult signature from someone 21 or older at delivery. The carrier will not leave a package without a signature. If a delivery attempt fails, the carrier will reattempt and you can also redirect to a hold-at-location facility.
